Speech and Language Therapist – Private
Why do people need a speech therapist for adults?
Adults may need speech and language therapy input for many different reasons. For example:
People may develop a voice disorder at any time in their life.
Adults may develop speech or language difficulties following a brain injury, such as a stroke or a head injury, or if they have brain cancer or tumours. These conditions can also cause changes in communication style (cognitive communication) or swallowing difficulties.
Adults can develop speech or swallowing difficulties if they have a progressive neurological condition, such as Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis, Huntington’s Disease or Motor Neuron Disease.
Adults may develop dementia which can cause language and swallowing difficulties. There are rare forms of dementia where people first present with language difficulties (such as Primary Progressive Aphasia).
Adults may develop swallowing difficulties secondary to other health conditions.
Speech Therapy Lincs Ltd provides speech therapy for adults with communication and swallowing difficulties. Please see our ‘Services’ pages for more details about the different services provided.
